The Truth About Beauty Influencers

Hey!

How are you?

Welcome to a brand new post! I thought that today, I would talk about my 'truth' on the beauty influencer sort of drama that has been happening lately. Honestly, I think that I'm going to talk about the beauty influencer thing from a blogging aspect. I have a few opinions on the stuff that's happened and I might mention it at the bottom of the post. I am a beauty influencer myself so I felt like it might be good to talk about it. (The photo is owned by Pexels and is a stock image and not of anyone specific.)

Warning: This post will content language of an adult nature throughout the post.

So, let's break down the beauty influencer drama. It's about, 1: influencers forming cliques (let's call it the Matte Plastics, get it?), 2: money, 3: contracts and collaborations, and, 4: brands deciding to work with big influencers. I'm probably missing something, but it's probably best if I stick to a fair few.

A picture of a woman with dark hair in an updo with a smoky eye and red lips sat down staring into the distance on a white background

Cliques:

Okay, so cliques are going to form no matter what. We're shown early on in life that it's good to make friends, and end up in groups that share a common interest. We're shown via primary and secondary socialisation that a friend is a friend, and that it's good to bond. The only problem with that is that cliques form and the whole message of becoming friends with others and being friendly and open, are well, thrown in the sea somewhere with all of the other suffering sea creatures in the world. Cliques become well, messy and disgusting just like when you leave your makeup on overnight after a good night out, and you decide to look in a mirror the morning after. They promote exclusion and honestly discriminatory behaviour. This is all well and good, when you're a child in school still learning your times tables, you learn from it, but when you're still doing it in your twenties and owards? That's when it becomes problematic. When you're doing it professionally, when you have a mass audience following your every single move and they see that you're being messy and childish, they might think that it's okay to do the same and it's not. The fact that you know that you're in the public eye and you think that no ones going to clock you for being a five year old? Newsflash, they are going to, they will and you will suffer the consequences for doing so. When it comes to bloggers, Youtubers, influencers, whatever you want to label us all, doing this, it does the above and shows brands that might want to work with you that you're unprofessional, but also, it shows that you're pushing people that are in your own community trying to do the same thing out of the way. Why? Because you might not like them, they might have different views to you, they might make a different bracket of money than you? Doing that is petty and dirty. Trust me, I've seen it with my own eyes, it's just wrong. We all say that us digital workers need to stick together, then you join cliques with other influencers and decide to talk crap about them and be shady? Bullshit. Practice what you preach or expect consequences to your actions. Don't write shady posts about other influencers. Mean Girls came out 14 years ago, have you learnt nothing from it?
Cliques do not work. End of.

Money:

Okay, so as I mentioned a bit in the previous paragraph, when it comes to working as a digital influencer, money comes into play. You are doing a job, whether that be creating images for instagram, posts or videos, and brands may think that you're suitable for their brand, and approach you to work with them on sponsored content. They may ask you for a fee, and they will normally negotiate what they can offer you, and vice versa. If a brand pay you x amount then that's fab, but do not try and come for them and ask for more money. You're not god. The brands know that you're doing a lot for them. Being an influencer isn't easy, yes its full of amazing things, but there is admin and editing and so forth. Brands get that, but as soon as you've set down a price, don't try and get more money out of them. Where the fuck do you think you are? At an auction? No, a company can only give you so much, so get down from your pedestal and stop thinking you're the shit. All of us influencers are trying to make a living out of something that we love to do, and honestly brands are more than likely going to offer us a measly price for a lot of things that we're doing for them. Why? Because you've screwed up their experience with working with influencers and now guess what? They think that your behaviour is how all influencers act, when it's very far from the truth. Yes, you might have a large following, but you never know, your audience may drop dramatically if you're churning out the same content. When that happens, what are you going to do for your obscene amount of money? Stop thinking that you're the shit, you're not, you're like the rest of us. A influencer making a living via something they love. Honestly, I've seen this happen quite a bit via various influencer groups on the internet.

Contracts and Collaborations:

A lot goes into a collaboration,  and the way that most collaborations are secured are via a legal contract. When it comes to a collaboration, a contract will state things like the brand or PR company you're collaborating with, the fee, the deadline, what the brand want you to do, hashtags to use, handles to include when promoting the post. Once you sign this, you are legally bound to do what the contract says, and the brand pays the amount they've stated. Sometimes, the brand might not pay. I've seen that happen, it's happened to myself, but you don't randomly pull out three quarters through a contract, because you want to. That's not how it works. You don't just cut out of a contract when you want. If you accept a contract, then you and the client have a legal obiligation to follow it through. Don't get shitty and shady/one answered questions when the client asks you something. If you knew that you weren't able to do it or wasn't sure then tell them. Brands need to follow through and pay us when we've done a post but we also need to make sure that we read the contract well, and know what we are getting ourselves into. If you cost a brand a lot of money by pulling out of a campagin without a good reason as to why, then expect the professional bridge to be burnt. They've spent a lot of time, just like you do in everything that you do.
Communication is key.

Problems Working With Big Influencers:

Before, someone tries to come for me in the comments, trust me, I'm not a big blogger. I guess that I'm slowly getting there but I still wouldn't class myself as a 'big blogger'. My social following is nowhere near what a 'big blogger' would have. Brands work with big influencers is that they are normally only doing it due to their following. I get that. Brands want the most amount of audience checking out a new product or campaign, but the problems with big influencers is that they might have a large following, but where's the substance? You might get a click from their audience, but will you get any organic interaction? Probably not. You'll get a big influx of people checking out your brand but they will instantly fly to the next thing that the said influencer says is great. That's another thing, do you get an honest opinion from a big blogger or will you get a general this is good or bad? Can you improve your product or brand from that? Hell, no! With a smaller influencer, you'll get an honest and probably in depth review/opinion, telling you exactly what they think of it, as they want to be honest to their trusting audience. You can build on that, you can resend the influencer the product once it's been sorted and see if it's better. You might not get a massive amount of traffic compared to a bigger influencer, but, you will get substance. You'll get the audience probably buying something or checking other things that the unfluencer hasn't mentioned. Who knows? They won't be unprofessional and cancel halfway through a campaign, which means that you can create a trusting yet professional relationship with them, hence being able to rely on them for future opportunities.

That's the tea spilled. What do you think about the whole beauty drama at the moment? Would you like me to create more beauty based posts? Let me know down below!

I hope that you have enjoyed this post, and that you come back next time for another post.

Hopping On In Life | MCard

Hey everyone!

Welcome to a brand new post. How are you? Doing fine? Relaxing? A bit stressed? (lLet me know down below). I thought that today, I would talk to you all about a brand new way to travel within West Yorkshire, via, the MCard.

A rectangular pink MCard with white detailing and a White box containing a Pink M and Card in white font on a white background.

MCard is the smart way to get about in West Yorkshire, getting you on the buses and trains you need.

The MCard is a smartcard that makes travelling on buses and trains across West Yorkshire really simple and great value too!. The Smartcard fits in your wallet.

All you need to do is load your MCard with the travel ticket that best suits your needs. That could be a bus only ticket, or perhaps a bus and rail ticket. Wherever you need to be, there'll be a travel product for you.

If you use buses and trains in West Yorkshire, a lot, within a week then it might be best for you to save more and invest in a MCard as it will help save you time at the train station/getting on buses and gives you. This ensures that you get one card that ensures that you pay the price for all in one go.

There are many different MCards, including the Under 16, 16-18, and, 19-25 Photocards. There is even an MCard for those who just use buses way more than trains. The Pink MCard is fully transferable too, so if you're staying in but your partner's heading out there's no need to buy more travel!

If you live and travel a lot within West Yorkshire then I think that the MCard would be perfect for you. If you do have one then why don't you tell me down below by including some photos of your favourite place within West Yorkshire?

Five Ways To Be Thrifty

Hey!

Welcome to another blog post. I thought that today I would talk to you guys about how to be thrifty. I get asked quite a bit from various people how do you save money so I thought that today I would answer that question!

Reduced Items:

Reduced items can be a god send for all of us. When it comes to reduced, people automatically go well it has to be eaten as soon as but sometimes it just because things are not in the perfect state but if they're cheaper for not looking glamorous then I say get it. Most supermarkets also have specific peak times for reduced items (I'm not exactly sure but if you google it you'll find it) but normally it's best to go late as the store will be wanting to get rid of certain items of stock for the day or go on a Sunday as items will need to be gone so the store can replenish the shelves for the forthcoming week.

Try Before You Buy

I know that this sounds weird but if you go into certain stores they will sometimes either demo items on you or they will make up a little sample for you to use once or twice, You will normally have to ask nicely as the staff are doing this out of the goodness of their hearts but it also means that if you're considering something that is slightly out of your price range then you can use it and see if it's really worth it.

O2 Priority

This is slightly bias towards the O2 mobile network but thank goodness for O2 Priority as it helps me during the week. You can get things such as £1 meal deals and free hot drinks along with free cookies and many other things which help the fellow student and anyone who is on a budget. Who would ever turn down a free luxurious hot drink?!

Rewards Cards

Sometimes people turn their nose up at the humble rewards card but if you play your cards right then they can save you a good amount of money. Loyalty cards such as M&S Sparks Card give you the choice of choosing certain offers to save money on a fortnightly basis. The renowned Clubcard give you coupons to save money from time to time. The Love Your Body Card at The Body Shop give you £5 to spend on any product within the month of your birthday. All of these add up to help you save quite a bit of money.

Money Saving Websites

These sort of websites help me save money in quite a few various ways as someone else has spent their well earned time sifting through offers to find the best ones for the general public to use. This might include things like sales, percentages off items such as clothing or ways to get free samples of things such as moisturiser or trending perfumes at the moment. If you need to save some money then I'd definitely search for a good money saving website!

Do you know of any good tips on being thrifty? Let me know down below!

I hope that you have enjoyed this blog post. I hope that it has informed you in any way shape or form. I hope that you come back next time for another blog post.

How Much Do Celebrities Get Paid For Reality Shows?

Hi!

Today, I'm talking about how much celebrities get paid when it comes to reality shows which you probably guessed from the title. I thought that it would be a good time to talk about this kind of thing due to I'm A Celeb and Strictly being on and then once these shows finish, Celebrity Big Brother will be back...

I think the best way to do this post is to talk about the statsics which have been brought by Conversations By Her and Cash Lady. If I have the time then I will embed them at the bottom of the post. The three shows that I will talk about are I'm A Celeb, CBB and Strictly Come Dancing.

I'm A Celeb:

Spencer Matthews (known for his roles of himself in Made In Chelsea & The Bachelor.) ended up controversially being in the media during his time on the reality TV show due to taking steriods and not informing the producers of his intake beforehand. Spencer earnt a whopping amount of over £300,000. Susannah Constantine (known for being a fashion journalist, a designer and for her role of herself in her many ITV shows with costar Trinny Woodall) made a total amount of over £200,000 and the nations favourite Lady Colin Campbell (known for being a writer and socialist) earnt around £70,000.

Celebrity Big Brother:

Christopher Biggins (who is known for being an actor/a presenter) earnt £150,000 for his short time due to a controversjal conversation earnt £150,000 for appearing on the show. Samantha Fox (former glamour model, singer and actress) earnt an amount of £110,000 for appearing on CBB and made her voice heard on the show and the winner Stephen Bear (known for appearing on Shipwrecked & Ex On The Beach) earnt £12,000!

Strictly Come Dancing:

Favourite to win and Olympian Claudia Fragapane made a successful amount of £100,000 for appearing on Strictly Leslie Joseph (star of ITV's Birds Of A Feather) earnt £25,000 and Will Young earnt the least amount of money on the show due to quitting. He earnt £5,000!

If you want to catch up on I'm A Celeb then watch it on ITV Hub or catch up on Strictly over on iPlayer. I hope that you have enjoyed finding out about how much celebrities earn from reality shows. I hope that you come back for more entertaining posts!

Thanks!

For When You Need Money | Glo

Hey!

I know that everyone is going back to education and things like that and the one thing that gets left out of the conversation is finance so I thought that today I would kind of talk about that.

When you start further education, you instantly kind of sort finance out but finance only lasts so long and then you have to find other ways to feed yourself and do other things unless you work in your spare time after lectures and things like that. It's hard being a student sometimes!

If you have ever been a student then you will know the struggle of living on 15p cans of beans and other things such like trying to afford a night out on one drink or living via discounts and offers and when you need some money it can be hard but there is ways of coping such as loans. I know loans sound like a dirty word but they don't have to be!

Glo is a website that offers loans in a different way than usual. Glo talk to someone who is close to you and is happy to support you and then if they are sure that you can afford the repayments then they will give you the loan which is a lot easier than some of the other ways that you can acquire a loan and this helps people who might be new to this whole loan thing or stuff like that. I think that this is quite a nifty idea and takes a lot of the scare and paperwork out of the occasion.

Glo will also make you feel a bit safer when it comes to loans as there is no set up fee and there is a fixed interest rate so you won't have any nasty surprises which I think is a great thing. If you want to know more about the guarantor loans at Glo

I hope that you have found this post informative and interesting and I hope to see you next time for another blog post!

Thanks!

This post was obviously in collaboration with Glo. All ramblings, views and opinions are my own,

What You Need For University | 5 Essentials For Uni

Hey!

I know that a good few people will be setting up shop in an unknown territory for the next three or so years very soon so I thought that from one student to another that you could do with some tips on what your top five essentials should be for uni!

Change

This may sound like a weird suggestion but you will thank me in the long run. If you ever get any change then I would suggest putting into a clean jar (the jar could be a recycled jar of jam or something) as you can store the change in this and then when it comes to needing change for cleaning your clothes you know that you won'be too poor to even have change or have to awkwardly break into a note by going to the nearest place with a cash machine.

Dry Shampoo

If you haven't been using dry shampoo then where have you been for the last few years? Under a rock? Dry shampoo will come in extra handy when at uni for when you either want a touch up volume wise or for when you've slept through your alarms and you have to rush to get to your lecture just on time and it's only a couple of pounds when on offer so it will help you out a lot!

Chargers

Chargers will instantly save you from having a meltdown when your devices die during lectures/adventures during the day/nights out so be prepared! Get back ups as wires do break easily, get power bars and so forth. Do everything you can to avoid that meltdown happening!

Stationery/Technology

You're probably wondering why I have grouped these two things together. I have done this because laptops and such can be classed as stationery as you do need them to type stuff down, to voice record lectures and so on. You do also need stationery though as you might actually need to write things down just in case or if your laptop dies then its a good back up and students and stationery collecting go hand in hand as they are cute and cheap sometimes!

Cheap Sources For Caffeine

This sounds bad but you will need cheap sources of caffeine for after a hangover or for the night before a deadline... Cheap sources might include getting energy drinks in bulk or buying a big jar of espresso powder and living off that for those moments. It's great when they're all on offer as well!

I hope that you have enjoyed this blog post! If you are going to University then I hope that your moving in goes well and that you don't die from Freshers.

Have you used any of these essentials? Let me know down below!

Thanks!
