Yo! Sushi Katsu Chicken Noodle Bowl From Iceland Review

Hey everyone!

Welcome to a brand new post! I saw that Yo! sushi had released a range at Iceland so I thought that I would grab something from the range and tell you all my thoughts about it.

The Yo! sushi range at Iceland includes Tempura Prawns, Gyozas, Bao Kits and much more such as Korean Fried Chicken and Ice Cream Mochi.

The Katsu Curry Noodle Soup is described as ‘Delicious  Chicken Dumplings, Noodles, and Asian Veg in our aromatic Katsu Broth.’ - Iceland Foods UK.

The way to cook this confused me a bit. Some of the Asian noodle bowls/soups that I’ve cooked before have just required boiling water from a kettle to cook, whereas this product requires boiling water from the kettle but also the repetitive task of putting it in the microwave, taking it out, stirring and repeat. I guess this was to ensure that the Chicken was fully cooked but it just meant that it took a while and became quite hot to handle especially for someone who has a tendency to not have the best of dexterity skills in the world.

The texture of this soup was everything that I’ve been wanting lately. I don’t know if it’s because of the rollercoaster weather that is going on in the UK at the moment but I’ve been craving a soup with every texture going on at the moment. The texture of the dumplings which were the first thing my spoon fell onto has not only an amazing chew to them but also had a a sublime soft and supple texture to them due to the meaty interior. This alone was the best of both worlds but was only the start of the texture train that happened within this bowl of soup. The noodles added a slight sort of bouncy texture to the dish which I really loved alongside the slight chew of the dumpling wrapper. These noodles weren’t like an udon noodle which I learned to love during my time living in Leeds during my undergraduate University degree nevertheless they were excellent to eat. The Asian Veg added a much need crunch which I really loved as it contrasted against the supple filling of the dumplings and all of the chew that was going on. Finally, the soup added a sort of creamy celebrity texture to the dish which made everything sort of combine together into a rich harmonious dish which I really enjoyed.

The first thing that jumped into my mouth was the dumplings themselves. To some, dumpling wrappers may taste bland which I completely understand due to them being made from flour and water, but to me, they kind of give out a sort of comforting taste which I quite like especially when boiled/steamed. The chicken that laid inside of these delicious dumplings gave off a wonderful amount of umami which made them not only effortless to eat but also addictive and excellent . The noodles again added a sort of comforting slightly creaminess to the dish. The vegetables helped to cut through all of the umami and savouriness that the dumplings gave to my tastebuds and honestly ensured that this dish wasn’t bland. The curry itself gave off a creamy yet quite sweet taste which I was surprised at as the Japanese curries that I’ve had in the past have been more peppery than sweet whereas this one was more sweet than peppery and spicy.

Would I buy it again? Yes, I would. I’m giving this an 8/10 as it definitely blew my expectiations of something frozen from Yo! Way out of the park. I love all the components and it’s actually decent for the price. I don’t think I would get this all the time but I would get it when I want a heart warm lunch or when I’m craving Japanese Curry.  I definitely advise that if you are thinking of trying the range then you should get this!

Some New Products That I Recently Bought From Iceland

 Hey everyone!

Welcome to a brand new blog post! I thought that today I would talk to you about some of the new things that I got from Iceland.

I decided to order a Iceland delivery order due to ordering in the past with them for when I have needed things in the past for my university at home lunches. Iceland are amazing for home deliveries due to having delivery slots in the same week as ordering, which for someone who is, disabled and a student this is an absolute must. Iceland are always amazing when delivering my items!

Butterkist Toffee and Popcorn Flavoured Ice Cream

Oh my god, Butterkist has always been my favourite product to take to the cinema and now that I can have it in an ice cream form, I can enjoy it at home whenever I want a movie night!

The texture of this product is amazing. Not only do you have smooth ice cream, but you have crunchy bits of honeycomb and sugar and then waves of flowing toffee sauce. All of these blended together create the greatest of mouth feels!

The flavour of this product is phenomenal and has many dimensions to it. To start off with the popcorn flavoured ice cream hits your tongue like the main battle of a superhero movie. After this, the toffee flavour blended together with the popcorn flavour on my mouth, just like how a sidekick blends together with the protagonist of a movie to create the greatest team alive. Finally the sugar and honeycomb flavours blast on the mouth like a rocket going into space just to create the best ending to a great flavour adventure ever. If you love anything sweet or the original Toffee Butterkist then I urge you to try this.

Fruit Salad Ice Lollies

Who remembers unwrapping the wrapper of a Fruit Salad sweet knowing that the contents of it would bring you utter joy? These sweets were another part of my childhood. To be honest with you readers, most of items in this post remind me of my childhood and I think that's why I bought them. During this whacky new world that we are slowly coming to know, nostalgia is very much needed.

These reminded me of Twister ice lollies. I love anything Pineapple so I was excited to delve into them. The mixture of Pineapple and Raspberry created a delicious sweet and sour contrast. The creaminess not only added a bit of texture but added a richness to the product which I adored as it cut back some of the sharpness of the fruit, which if left in its natural form, may be a bit too much for some. These to me tasted like the epitome of Summer.

Parma Violet Ice Lollies

I remember always getting these at Halloween or when it came to a fellow schoolmates birthday when I was younger.

I adored these. The lollies had a great texture to them which reminded me of a solid slushy. The taste of these reminded me instantly of Parma Violets. The best way to describe the taste of this product, is crushed up Parma Violet sweets steeped in water and frozen. I think that these would be great for a summer picnic in the garden or with a refreshing drink on the side. I should say though that if you're not the biggest fan of Violet then I don't think that you will enjoyy these that much.

Space Invaders Potato Snacks

Who doesn't love Space Invaders? Those surprisingly sour crisps were the epitome of my childhood! I saw these and I knew that I had to have them!

'Potato shapes from rehydrated potato with pickled onion flavour, pre-fried in sunflower oil.' - Iceland Foods.

When these amazing aliens were ready, I left them to cool before I tried them. These beauties were crunchy whilst the inside were as fluffy as your favourite blanket. I love the texture of potato shapes in general as they bring the best of both worlds to the plate.

Sadly, I was expecting the Pickled Onion flavour to come out strongly when after cooking these aliens, the Pickled Onion note of them had been muted quite a bit by the heat of the oven. To me they tasted more of Cheese than Pickled Onion to me which was quite bizarre. I am tempted to get the BBQ Neef ones to see if the same happens. Even though the Pickled Onion isn't completely there, it will definitely not stop me from devouring the rest of the bag!

Jamie Noms Through Christmas | Iceland Festive Menu 2019

Hey everyone!

Welcome to a brand new Jamie Noms Through Christmas post. I thought that today, that I would talk to you about Iceland, who are infamous for their Christmas ranges.

Now, with University and everything happening lately, I've only had the time to try one savoury thing from Iceland's Seasonal Range, and, three different desserts from the Iceland Seasonal Range. There won't be any images of them as it was a while ago. I could email the PR, but, with most PR teams it takes a while due to them being busy at this time of year, and I want this post up before Christmas is over and done with.

Festive Pie

There is no description for this, but this is literally a Christmas Lunch in a Pie. I loved all of the different elements, I loved all of the veg, the meat, the creamy sauce, But my main big problem is that, it was kind of small... I was expecting something kind of bigger, like a sort of Quiche size, not a Pie a size of my palm really. The pastry against the smooth silky sauce was amazing. If it was any bigger than it was then I think it would have been one of the best pies I've had ever.

Black Forest Cheesecake

If you love Black Forest things, then you will love this! The Cheesecake base was crumbly but still somewhat crispy which was a great contrast against the smooth creamy filling. The Cream Cheese was a beautiful blank canvas for the dark sour Cherries. The Chocolate cut against the sourness and rounded off the whole Dessert. I loved it and the Cherry flavour wasn't too pronounced or too sour which made it great for everyone, as, sometimes I'm not the biggest fan of Sour Cherries. A great dessert to round off any night.

Chocolate Orange Cheesecake

Sadly, you can't whack this one, but, you can definitely tap it... If you love Chocolate Orange flavoured things, then this is right up your street. The Orange flavour in this was more realistic than synthetic which I quite liked. The filling of the Cheesecake had a slight set Jelly feel to it which was unusual, but, I quite liked it. It gave me quite big Jaffa cake vibes, which, is never a bad thing in my eyes. If you like something with a fruity kick for dessert, then, definitely give this one a try!

Passion Fruit Cheesecake

This was quite simple. Passion Fruit Puree as a topping, and a Cheesecake as a base. The Passion Fruit created a Fruity and Zingy contrast against the sweet creamy Cheesecake. I loved how sort of Zingy and Sour it was as it just made you want more. It's a great to enjoy at this time of year as everything is laden with rich flavours at this time of year, and, something like this dessert would definitely cut through all of that. Give it a try and let me know what you think down below!

I hope that you've enjoyed this Jamie Noms Through Christmas post. I hope that you come back next time for another post.
