Hey everyone!
Welcome to a brand new blog post! I recently received my Lush Kitchen July Shower Box and I thought that today I would talk to you all about the contents of the box and my thoughts on the box as a whole!
The theme of Julys box is simply when life gives you Lemons. Some people decide to make Lemonade out of Lemons or a gorgeous Lemon Drizzle Cake but Lush have decided to turn their Lemons into Lemon scented cosmetic products!
Lemon Shower Gel
Ingredients:
Glycerine, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Irish Moss Infusion (Chondrus crispus), Water (Aqua), Fresh Lemon Juice (Citrus limonum), Lauryl Betaine, *Limonene, Perfume, Myrrh Resinoid (Commiphora myrrha), Lemongrass Oil (Cymbopogon citratus), Bergamot Oil (Citrus Aurantium bergamia), Gardenia Extract (Gardenia jasminoides), Carrageenan Extract (Chondrus crispus), Citral, Linalool.
I have been longing for a Lemon centric Shower Gel from Lush for a while so as soon as I heard that this Kitchen Box was dropping I knew that I had to have it for the Shower Gel alone! I used to adore the Refresher Shower Jelly which to me was the epitome of Lemon Curd in shower form when it was available to purchase from Lush stores.
The blend of Myrrh, Lemongrass and Bergamot creates a beautiful scent. The combination of these three different oils creates a scent that reminds me of the smell of freshly cut Lemons on a hot Summer day with a slightly sharp kick in the background from the Lemongrass. I was a bit unsure on how the Myrrh would smell in regards to creating a fresh citrus scent but to me it helps to create a slightly fresh slightly woody background note that helps the Lemongrass and Bergamot be the stars of the show in this Shower Gel. If you are been loving Lush for a while now then you may remember this scent by a different name. lemon smelt that contained chunks of cocoa Butter on the top of the gel to help nourish the skin. Although Lemon doesn't contain the cocoa Butter it does contain Glycerine that is known to provide the skin with plenty of moisture and nourishment.
I have been absolutely loving using this so far and could definitely see this reappearing at Lush in the form of a seasonal range or this time next year as a part of a fully fledged Summer Range. If you're listening Lush then please re-release Refresher Shower Jelly whilst you're at it if you are releasing a Summer Range. Thanks!
Lemony Flutter Body Conditioner
Ingredients:
Water (Aqua), Fair Trade Organic Jojoba Oil (Simmondsia chinensis), Glycerine, Fair Trade Organic Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cacao), Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii), Stearic Acid, Cetearyl Alcohol, Triethanolamine, Sicilian Lemon Oil (Citrus limonum), Lavender Oil (Lavandula angustifolia), Tagetes Oil (Tagetes minuta), Chamomile Blue Oil (Matricaria chamomilla), Citral, Coumarin, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool, Perfume.
We all need our bodies to be soft and supple even during the hot summer months!
Lemony Flutter Body Conditioner does just that! If you're unsure on what a body conditioner is then imagine a sort of in-shower body butter that you wash off before hopping out of the bath/shower instead of applying after and having to wait forever for it to absorb into the skin!
Lemony Flutter contains Fair Trade Organic Cocoa Butter, Fair Trade Organic Jojoba Oil and Shea Butter which combine to create a lovely base for the Body Conditioner that will moisturise and soften the skin when you apply it in the tub or shower!
Lemony Flutter contains Sicilian Lemon Oil, Lavender Oil, Chamomile Blue Oil alongside some other goodies which combine to create a lovely sharp citrus scent with a soft herbal background. This also shares the same scent as the Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter.
When I used this in the shower, the conditioner glided on my skin and the sharp citrus scent engulfed my entire bathroom. I left it on for a couple of minutes massaged it into my skin and rinsed it off to reveal soft smooth glowing skin. I loved the scent of this whilst I was enjoying my pamper session in the bathroom.
The Lavender and Chamomile came out a little bit more post shower. I tend to be a bit hesitant with some Lavender and chamomile scented products as it can come across a bit too much and always reminds me a bit of my local swimming baths. (Thinking about it now, this might be why I stray away from products such as Dream Cream until the Winter period of the year...) I was a touch surprised by this because I was expecting the Lemon to stay as strong as it did when first applying it to my skin but I did still enjoy the body conditioner as a whole as the citrus scent that was left behind stopped the Lavender and Chamomile from being too much to use for myself personally.
If you have quite dry skin and feel like nothing is moisturising it enough then I think that the body conditioners at Lush will help your skin severely!
Nibble Lip Scrub
Ingredients:
Caster Sugar, Fair Trade Organic Jojoba Oil (Simmondsia chinensis), Glycerine, Sicilian Lemon Oil (Citrus limonum), *Limonene, Citric Acid, Citral, Geraniol.
We all need a lip scrub to keep our lips soft and supple for all that summer loving!
For this Kitchen Box, Lush have turned a few Lemons into a brand new flavour of their iconic Lip Scrub thats full of zesty goodness! This lip scrub contains Caster Sugar which creates the base of this gorgeous product and helps to make lips soft and gorgeous. Sicilian Lemon Oil and Citric Acid blend together to create a super sharp Lemon flavour and the Organic Jojoba Oil helps to moisturise lips which I adore as some lip scrubs from other brands in the past have left my lips really dry and irritated!
Nibble does only contain Sicilian Lemon Oil but sometimes less is best as it allows the Sicilian Lemon Oil to really shine bright in this lip scrub. I'm sure by now you can tell that I love anything Lemon so a severely bright and sharp Lemon flavoured Lip Scrubs is truly the dream for me.
Sexy Peel Soap
Ingredients:
Water (Aqua), Rapeseed Oil; Coconut Oil (Brassica napus; Cocos nucifera), Propylene Glycol, Cornstarch (Zea mays), Fresh Lemon Peel (Citrus limonum), Fresh Orange Peel (Citrus aurantium dulcis), *Limonene, Fresh Lemon Juice (Citrus limonum), Fresh Orange Juice (Citrus aurantium dulcis), Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil (Cocos nucifera), Fresh Lime Peel (Citrus aurantifolia), Lime Oil (Citrus aurantifolia), Perfume, Grapefruit Oil (Citrus paradisi), Fresh Lime Juice (Citrus aurantifolia), Sicilian Lemon Oil (Citrus limonum), Glycerine, Sodium Chloride, Citric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Bicarbonate, EDTA, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Citral, Geraniol, Linalool.
Lush is bringing sexy back! Sexy Peel that is!
Sexy Peel used to be an utterly zingy staple at Lush stores and I adored it. Every time I went into a Lush store I would always find it on the shelf and make sure I gave it a sniff as it always just perked my day up and made me want to enjoy the rest of my day even if it was a busy weekend in the middle of Leeds city centre where people would rush to get somewhere , bump into you and not apologise.
Sexy Peel being a fun spin on the term zesty peel helps to showcase not only the oils of the fruits that are used in this soap and on many other cosmetic products but also the zest/peel of the same fruits too!
Sexy Peel contains Sicilian Lemon Oil, Lime Oil and Grapefruit Oil alongside Fresh Lime Peel, Fresh Lemon Peel and Fresh Orange Peel which blend together to create a truly zingy soap that will perk you up no matter what time of the day it is or how bad your day has been going.
I've been using this Soap since the box arrived and I know that I am going to be truly saddened when I finish this slice of Soap!
Lemon Aid Cleanser
Ingredients:
Kaolin, Glycerine, Ground Almonds (Prunus dulcis), Tahini (Sesamum indicum), Fresh Carrot (Daucus carota sativa), Water (Aqua), Fresh Lemon Zest (Citrus Limonum), Propylene Glycol, Fair Trade Organic Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cacao), Sicilian Lemon Oil (Citrus limonum), Carrageenan Extract (Chondrus crispus), Limonene, Colour 15985:1, Colour 19140:1.
When life gives you lemons, make Lemon Aid!
Lush have decided to turn their lemonade into a gorgeous Lemon Aid Fresh Facial Cleanser!
This cleanser contains Ground Almond that help to scrub away dirt and grime alongside Kaolin which is known for its oil absorbing properties. Lemon Aid also contains Fair Trade Organic Cocoa Butter to ensure that the cleanser itself isn't too stripping for the face!
Lemon Aid also contains Fresh Carrot which is known for its Vitamin C properties which in turn helps to give the skin a subtle glow that makes you look like you're radiant from within! This facial cleanser also contains Sicilian Lemon Oil which creates a gorgeous punchy Lemon scent that will help to wake you up on those days in the summer where getting up even feels a little bit too much!
I have seen that a few people have been a bit confused when receiving this facial cleanser due to the jelly layer on top courtesy of Carrageenan Extract. I have seen people use it as an eye mask post cleansing the face, I have seen people shredding it up and mixing it and many other ways of using it. My favourite when it comes to the Jelly layer is to peel it off the top of the Ground Almond and Kaolin base of Lemon Aid and use it as a Jelly Cleanser. Lush have created Carrageenan based facial products before so in my mind that made the most sense. I have been enjoying using the jelly cleanser layer alongside the scrubby cleanser. (Let me know how you've been using the jelly layer!) I do get that it does seem a bit weird for a cleanser to come with a jelly layer and maybe Lish could explain why but as I say above as someone who uses a lot of cleansers I just took it to be a sort of jelly cleanser.
I have enjoyed incorporating Lemon Aid into my skin care routine especially since we've had a heatwave in the UK. The ground almonds have helped to keep my skin feeling smooth. Ive loved how the Carrot gives me a glow.
Since the beginning of the year, I have become a bit of a glow fiend when it comes to my skincare regime. For example, I do use Bright and Beautiful from Lush which contains 10% Vitamin C which if you're looking for a more vibrant glow to the skin compared to Lemon Aid then it might be worth looking into and trying out.
I do think that they could specify the situation with the Carrageenan and the jelly layer as I think it would make using it a bit easier for some of those who have subscribed and received this Kitchen Box but on the whole I think that this would be a great product during the summer months in Lush stores!
Overall, as you can tell, I really enjoy this Kitchen Box. There's a variety of products to use for the face and the body and the products all contain a sharp lemon scent in one way or another that make you want to either drink cocktails and bathe in the sun or feel refreshed after a long gruelling week. I adore Lemons in many ways as I have stated throughout this post but honestly I wasn't expecting to enjoy this Kitchen Box to the point that I need this Box to become a Summer mini range at Lush alongside Refreher Shower Jelly (pretty please Lush!)
